Assam

Assam is a state in northeastern India, nestled in the Brahmaputra valley this state has Tantrik Shaktism, Shivaism and later Vaishnavism flourishing in its laps. Assam is a place that is known for it's several pilgrimage destinations. There are several Hindu temples in Assam, among which, one of the holiest temples of the Hindus is the most famous Kamakhya Temple. This temple is regarded as the Shakti Peeth and is the most visited temple by the Hindu pilgrims in the state. It is the central temple in a complex dedicated to the ten Mahavidyas. The Shakti Temple of mother Goddess Kamakhya perched on the top of Nilachal Hills overlooking river Brahmaputra. Assam has numerous temples and monuments, as a proof to its great historical and cultural past dating back to the medieval days. Many ancient Hindu temples of Assam have some root in puranic legends and is the land of Vaishnava Gurus like Sankardeva and Madhavdeva. Negheriting Shiva Doul, Siva Dol, Kedareswara, Asvakranta, Basistha, Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar, Bhairabi, Umananda, Ugra Tara, Maha Bhairav, Tamresveri, Navagraha, Da Parbatia, Sukreswar, Hayagriva Madhava, Tilinga Mandir, and Mahamaya are the aother known temples in Assaam.
