Arulmigu Meenakshi Amman Temple, also known as Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Temple, is a historic Hindu temple located on the southern bank of the Vaigai River in the temple city of Madurai. It is dedicated to the goddess Meenakshi, a form of Parvati, and her consort, Sundareshwarar, a form of Shiva. The temple is at the center of the ancient temple city of Madurai mentioned in the Tamil Sangam literature, with the goddess temple mentioned in 6th-century CE texts. Rameswaram means "Lord of Rama" (Rama-isvaram) in Sanskrit, an epithet of Shiva, the presiding deity of the Ramanathaswamy Temple. Rama, the seventh avatar of the god Vishnu, prayed to Shiva here to absolve any sins that he might have committed during his war against the demon-king Ravana in Sri Lanka. Upon the advice of sages, Rama along with his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana installed and worshipped the lingam here to expiate the sin of Brahmahatya incurred while killing the Brahmin Ravana. Kanyakumari derives its name from the goddess Kanya Kumari, considered to be the sister of Krishna, a goddess is believed to remove the rigidity from the mind, to whom women pray for marriage. According to a Hindu legend, Kanya Devi, an avatar of Parvati, was to marry Shiva, who failed to show up on his wedding day. Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a monument and popular tourist attraction in Kanyakumari, It was built in 1970 in honor of Swami Vivekananda, who is said to have attained enlightenment on the rock. The Thiruvalluvar Statue, or the Valluvar Statue, is a 41-meter-tall (133 ft) stone sculpture of the Tamil poet and philosopher Valluvar, author of the Tirukkural, an ancient Tamil work on Dharma and morality. The Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is located in Thiruvananthapuram and is considered the richest place of worship in the world. The name of the city of 'Thiruvananthapuram' in Malayalam translates to "The City of Lord Ananta", (The City Of Lord Vishnu) referring to the deity of the Padmanabhaswamy temple.
