Kerala Temple Darshan

Package code: KTD-2023

Description

According to Puranas Lord Parashurama created Kerala by flinging his axe and reclaiming the land between Gokarna and Kanyakumari. Kerala is referred to in the Puranas as Parashurama Kshetram. It is he who established many temples and orders of rituals and rights for worshipping in these temples. He appointed many Brahmin families also for the same. In Kerala Shiva, Vishnu and Devi are the prominently worshipped Gods in the form of different deities. Legends have it that the deity of Guruvayoor is 5000 years old. The idol carved out of a sacred material called Pathalanjana Sila was once worshipped by the great God Maha Vishnu and handed over to Brahma. After many generations, it was worshipped by Sri Krishna's parents Vasudeva and Devaki and later installed in Dwaraka and worshipped by Krishna himself. Before giving up his body Krishna handed over this Idol to his foremost disciple Uddhava and instructed him to hand it over to Brihaspati, Guru. Dwarka was submerged in a deluge but Brihaspati with his prime disciple Vayu managed to retrieve the idol and with the help of Parasuram instated it for worshiping at Kaliyuga. Vadakkumnathan Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva in the city of Thrissur and was founded by Parashurama. This temple is around 2000 years old. Sree Kurumba Bhagavathy temple is one of the oldest temples in Kerala. The temple has a majestic six-foot-high wooden image of Goddess Kali, the presiding deity. The goddess worshipped here is known as Sree Kurumba which means The Mother of Kodungalloor. Chottanikkara Bhagavathy Temple is the most important Temple among the 393 shrines spread over 3 Districts of Kerala. The Divine Mother known as Rajarajeswari (Adiparasakthi) is worshipped here in three forms Saraswathy in the morning, Lakshmi at noon, and Durga in the evening. Ambalappuzha Sree Krishna Swamy Temple is believed to have been built during the 15th century AD. The idol at Ambalappuzha is likened to the Parthasarathy form of Vishnu, holding a whip in his right hand and a conch in his left. The Shree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is considered the richest place of worship in the world. Padmanabhaswamy is the tutelary deity of the royal family of Travancore. This Yatra covers major temples of Kerala and also shows a cross-section of the state.
