Description

Situated along the holy Ganga, Haridwar is famous for its temples and ghats where pilgrims bathe to relieve themselves of their sins and achieve salvation. This is one of the four holy Kumbha Mela sites in India also. Every day in the evening there is an elaborate Ganga aarti here which starts from 06:00 pm - 07:00 pm and in the morning it starts from 5:30 am to 6:30 am at Har Ki Pauri. Many people visit Har Ki Pauri for Ganga aarti. Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi are the most famous temples in Haridwar. This city is revered as the Gateway to God. Hrishikesa is a name derived from Vishnu, composed of Hrisika meaning senses and Isa meaning lord for a combined meaning of Lord of the Senses. The name commemorates an apparition of Vishnu to Raibhya Rishi, as a result of his tapasya, as Lord Hrishikesha. Rishikesh is commonly referred to as the Yoga capital of the world and rightly so. The destination is crowded with visitors, who come here to learn yoga and meditation. Rishikesh is the starting point for many pilgrimage destinations in Uttarakhand in Garhwal Himalaya. These two cities are the most revered cities in Uttarakhand.
